The Joy of Symmetry in Photography:
A 4-Week Virtual Photography Workshop in June and July 2022

ONLINE WORKSHOP VIA ZOOM Friday, June 10 – Saturday, July 9, 2022

A four-week learning experience . . . conducted by Rick Hulbert, RCA. As an Academician in the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts and recently retired Architect and Urban Designer, Rick is uniquely qualified to present a wide-ranging series of learning experiences.

Exploring Symmetry in photography is one of the best ways of easily exploring creative image making.

You don’t need special gear to create images that will be admired by your friends and competition judges.

You might be concerned that Creative Photography is just too “software-intensive” and that you would rather be recording scenes instead of sitting in front of a computer.

You might want to participate in an enjoyable 4-week experience that will provide you with knowledge and understanding as to why people are so enamoured by Symmetry.

Location

The Virtual Workshop will allow you to participate from any location from which you can log into. There will be a total of six separate class meetings and presentations on Zoom. Personal hands-on photography can be enjoyed in any location of your choice. You will be provided with a link to join every Zoom meeting.

9. Perceiving Horizontality and Verticality
10. Compositing Curves and Oblique Elements
11. Perceiving “Edges that Breathe” including the edges of objects and elements, volumetric space, and the image frame
12. Considering the subject of a photograph as the entire field of view

Your Instructor will be Rick Hulbert

Along with being an Academician in the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts, Rick Hulbert’s background is as an international award–winning and published Architect, urban designer, and photographer with a passion for teaching.

Rick has been a frequent lecturer, teacher, and seminar panel participant on four continents. He is a former President of the Architectural Institute of British Columbia. As an architect, Richard has won design awards or has had his works published each and every year for 4 decades.

Most recently, Rick was chosen as one of only 2 photographers from North America to be invited to participate in the World Art Games held in Bratislava, Slovakia.

What photo gear is desired?

This course is all about taking your photography to the next level regardless of the type of camera or array of lenses in your possession. Whether you have a point-and-shoot camera, a new mirrorless camera, an SLR, or a smartphone, you will benefit from the instruction provided.

You need to have a camera that you know how to use.

Please read the manual that came with your camera so that you will be familiar with its features.

Cancellation Policy

Refunds: Participants wishing to cancel workshop attendance must, without exception, contact Rick Hulbert to request a refund. Cancellations requested at least 30 days in advance of the workshop receive a full refund minus a $100 CAD administrative charge per order. In the unlikely event that a workshop is cancelled by Rick Hulbert, all fees paid will be refunded in full, which will then fulfill the maximum extent of our liability.
